InstaPay is the Philippines' real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system for retail payments, launched in 2018 by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). It enables instant peso transfers between bank accounts and e-wallets (GCash, Maya, GrabPay) 24/7, up to PHP 50,000 per transaction. For the 10+ million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) sending money home, InstaPay determines how fast international remittances clear once they arrive in the Philippines.
InstaPay uses the PESONet and InstaPay rails managed by PhilPaSS (Philippine Payment and Settlement System). Transfers between participating banks and e-wallets complete in seconds. Over 70 banks and e-wallets are connected to InstaPay including BDO, BPI, Metrobank, GCash, and Maya.
Maximum PHP 50,000 per transaction (about $850 at current rates). Most banks charge PHP 10-25 per InstaPay transaction. Some digital banks (Tonik, Maya) offer free InstaPay transactions as a feature.
International providers (Wise, Remitly, WorldRemit, digital asset rails via PDAX or Coins.ph) deliver PHP to a Philippines bank account or e-wallet. Once funds hit the Philippines banking system, the recipient can move them instantly via InstaPay to their preferred account. GCash receives remittances directly via its international partnerships.
InstaPay is real-time (seconds) and limited to PHP 50,000. PESONet is batch-processed (next business day) but supports unlimited amounts. For OFW remittances, InstaPay provides immediate access to received funds.
